— The regional Minister for Finance and Public Administration, Miguel Corgos, closed the 1st Annual Competition for co-financed projects #EuropaXunta.
— He stressed that in the new post-27 multiannual financial framework, the weight that regional governments currently have in the definition and management of measures financed with cohesion funds should be increased.
— The Mentor Programme aimed at promoting social inclusion and preventing and combating poverty was the winner of the European project of the year in Galicia.
The regional Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Miguel Corgos, today praised the projects financed with European Union funds for their contribution to the development of Galicia and stated that Galician government (known as Xunta) will continue to optimize its management and improve efficiency in execution, as well as strengthen its governance with economic and social agents and other state and European administrations.
During his participation in the closing ceremony of the 1st Annual Competition for co-financed projects #EuropaXunta, Miguel Corgos thus highlighted the execution of 100% of the already concluded financial framework, 14-20, and stressed the fundamental role that his management had in the overall improvement of social and employment indicators in Galicia.
In order to continue improving execution, the Minister of Finance and Public Administration conveyed the importance of promoting efficient and results-oriented financial management by reducing administrative complexity to speed up allocation and management. In addition to implementing innovative technological solutions, prioritizing projects with a high socio-economic impact and promoting the attraction of funding from other European funds of direct or shared management.
Miguel Corgos also recalled that Galicia has presented in the European Parliament Galicia’s vision for the new post-27 multi-year financial framework, focused on an increase in the current weight of regional governments in the definition and management of measures financed with cohesion funds. “The model proposed by Galicia is based on the principle of proximity. The regional governments are the administration closest to the territory and the one that best knows the needs to be met with the resources they receive”, he added.
After congratulating the finalists and the winning project of this competition, Miguel Corgos concluded by recalling that a large part of the development of the Region in the last 35 years is linked to the European funds received. Thus, from 1986 until the end of this decade, the Galician Government has managed more than 32,000 million euros in community aid.
The event also included the presentation of a travelling exhibition on the history of European funds in Galicia, which will tour ten towns and cities throughout the Region over the rest of the year. The exhibition aims to make citizens aware of the different European programmes and the funding opportunities they offer, as well as to make visible the projects that are already underway.
