Brussels, the 1st of December 2025 – The Director-General for External Relations and with the EU, Jesús Gamallo, today opened a new edition of the “Xunta–EU Online Meetings,” a initiative launched by the Fundación Galicia Europa (FGE) in 2020 to reinforce dialogue between the Galician Government and the European institutions. The session, moderated by the head of the FGE’s Brussels office, Ana Ramos, focused on the priorities of European youth policy.

In his address, Jesús Gamallo stressed that the EU is consolidating an ambitious agenda to support new generations, particularly in the fields of mobility, democratic participation, non-formal education, and access to professional opportunities. He also underlined the growing role of young people in strategic EU debates. “Galicia fully shares this vision,” he said, highlighting the importance of aligning regional policies with European objectives in order to ensure greater opportunities for Galician youth.

Since it inception, the FGE has focused on young people as one of the main audiences for its work.

Ana Fernández Perles, Head of Unit at the Secretariat of the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education, reviewed the EU’s priority lines in youth policy and emphasised the need to strengthen youth participation in European democratic life and support local initiatives that connect young people to the reality of EU institutions. For her part, Lara Meneses, Director-General for Youth, presented the Galician Youth Strategic Plan 2025–2027, which outlines regional priorities in training, well-being, and the emancipation of young people. The plan includes actions to improve access to educational and professional opportunities, strengthen support services for youth, and promote programmes that encourage their active participation in society.

The session also included the participation of organisations and professionals who work directly with young people in Galicia, enabling a direct dialogue between European institutions, the regional administration, and the associative sector. According to Ana Ramos, this approach strengthens the work of the Fundación Galicia Europa in promoting the involvement of Galician youth in European policies and programmes, particularly through EuroXuventude, a comprehensive ecosystem of initiatives that includes a virtual office providing information on European opportunities, an annual guide to internships and professional prospects in the EU, an active social media presence, and participation in European projects such as RuralYouthFuture and Incubtrans.

Online meetings Xunta-UE

More than 700 representatives of the Government of Galicia have taken part in the 50 sessions of the ‘Online meetings Xunta-UE’, held since 2020. The Representation of the Government of Galicia in Brusels launched this initiative during the COVID pandemic to inform about the EU’s response and the design of the 2021–2027 programming period. It has since evolved into a monthly forum for debating the most relevant issues on the EU agenda for Galicia.
