ERDF and ESF 2021-2027 will invest 2,300 M€ in Galicia to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion

— The European Commission approves Galician programs to receive resources from the Structural Funds

Brussels, February 22nd 2023. Last December, the European Commission approved the ERDF and ESF structural fund programs managed by the Xunta for the period 2021-2027, which will bring €2,300 million to Galicia between European aid and co-financing from the Autonomous Community.

The Galicia ERDF Program 2021-2027, designed to receive aid from the European Regional Development Fund, has a financial allocation from the EU amounting to € 940.2 million, which, together with funding from the Xunta, will bring the total amount for the program to € 1,567 million. An amount with which it will continue to work to promote innovation, digital transition and competitiveness of SMEs, as well as to advance the ecological transition.

In this framework, the resources from the *Feder will be allocated to investments to achieve a more competitive and intelligent Galicia, promoting innovative, digital transformation and sustainable growth and competitiveness of SMEs.

Likewise, actions related to energy efficiency, renewable energies, adaptation to climate change and risk prevention, water cycle, circular economy or environmental protection and restoration will be promoted. In addition, actions related to sustainable mobility, educational and health infrastructures, as well as culture and sustainable tourism will also be financed.

FSE+ Galicia 2021-2027

The European Commission also approved the ESF Galicia 2021-2027 Program that achieves 738.4 million euros (448.5M€ from the EU contribution and 289.9M€ provided by the Xunta de Galicia). This program will promote the sustainability and quality of employment, social inclusion and the fight against poverty or training and education.

These resources will be allocated to measures related to employment, the adaptability of workers and entrepreneurs, as well as to promote a balanced gender participation in the labor market, with youth employment being a priority.

The aim is to promote social inclusion and the fight against poverty, to improve the quality and inclusion of education and training systems, and to promote lifelong learning.

In short, the European Commission has just approved the Galicia Programs of the ERDF and ESF Structural Funds for 2021-2027, whose eligibility period ends on December 31, 2029. These programs will contribute to strengthen the economic, social and territorial cohesion of Galicia in this decade, meeting the political priorities of the European Union, especially the green and digital transitions, in the context of the Cohesion Policy.
