— The director of the Brussels office of Fundación Galicia Europa inaugurated a new meeting of the ‘Online meetings Xunta-EU’ series, in which the results of the European elections and the path towards the new EU mandate were addressed.
— This initiative of the Galician delegation to the EU has hosted, since it was launched in September 2020, more than 500 civil servants in its forty sessions.
Brussels, 19th of July 2024. The director of the Brussels office of Fundación Galicia Europa, Ana Ramos, inaugurated the last session held before the summer holidays of the ‘Online meetings Xunta-EU’ series, the forum for debate between the Galician Government and the European institutions that has already had more than 500 attendees. The meeting dealth with the current renowal of the EU institutions, which began after the European elections held last June, from both the EU and the Galician perspective.
Jesús Carmona, Director for Media in the European Parliament’s Directorate-General for Communication, participated as a speaker in the session. He explained the scheme and deadlines to be followed by the European institutions for the election of the remaining EU ‘top jobs’, after Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected in the European Parliament as President of the European Commission.
In this new institutional cycle, Fundación Galicia Europa will continue its mission of defending Galician interests before the European institutions, as the Galician Government’s representative in Brussels. In order to illustrate this work, Ana Ramos presented those areas of the European agenda that will be a priority for Galicia. As she pointed out in her intervention, Galicia’s contribution to the debate on the future of cohesion policy and the structural funds in the multiannual financial framework after 2027 will be particularly relevant.
Online meetings between Galicia’s government and the European institutions
The cycle ‘Online meetings Xunta-EU’ brings together the Xunta de Galicia with representatives of the European institutions on a monthly basis to jointly address the policies promoted by the EU. Organised by Fundación Galicia Europa since September 2020, it fosters the debate on a multitude of issues on the EU agenda, such as the Industrial Strategy for Europe or the State aid regulatory framework.
