Brussels, 28th of February 2024. The Director General for External and EU Relations of Xunta de Galicia, Jesús Gamallo, opened and moderated today the first 2024 meeting of the cycle ‘Online meetings Xunta-EU’the discussion forum between the Galician government and the European institutions, organised monthly by the Fundación Galicia Europa. Today’s session focused on Global Gateway, the strategy that brings together the European Union’s efforts to increase its global presence while promoting shared democratic values and contributing to the development of its partner countries.

In this strategic framework presented in 2021, Team Europe – comprising the EU, member states, national development agencies and the European Investment Bank- aims to mobilise nearly €300 billion by 2030 to create global linkages to drive investment in climate, energy or digital infrastructure. This will provide “certainty and equity for investors, sustainability for partners and long-term benefits for all”. At today’s meeting, the institutional vision of the Global Gateway was presented by Laurent Sillano, advisor at the European Commission’s Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA).

The meeting was moderated by Ana Ramos, director of the Brussels office of Fundación Galicia Europa. Furthermore, the Galician perspective was addressed by José Manuel Blanco, Deputy Director General for Analysis and Programming at the Directorate General for External Relations and the EU of the Xunta, who introduced the attendees to the Galician External Action Strategy (Egaex) for the period 2023-2027, the instrument with which our region takes advantage of the opportunities for internationalisation and evaluates its external influence.
