Galicia and the European Commission analyse together the key points and challenges of the European Semester 2022
- Ana Ramos, director of the Brussels office of the Fundación Galicia Europa, opened the sixth meeting of the year of the cycle of meetings “FGE | NextGeneratiOn Galicia.
- The director pointed out the importance of the European Semester and stressed the alignment of Galicia with the EU country recommendations.
Brussels, 6th de July 2022. – Ana Ramos, Director of the Brussels office of the Fundación Galicia Europa hosted last July the sixth annual edition of the “FGE | NextGeneratiOn Galicia”, a monthly forum between Galicia and the European Commission aimed to discuss and exchange information on EU policies that have an important impact on Galicia economy and society.
Ramos stressed the importance of the European Semester, the cycle of economic, fiscal, labour and social policy coordination within the EU. The current 2022 cycle, adapted to take into account the creation of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, is configured as an opportunity to discuss the interactions between these two European frameworks, which guarantee political coordination and seek to respond to current challenges.
Following Ana Ramos’ intervention, Carlos Maravall, a representative of the European Commission addressed the challenges of the 2022 European Semester, highlighting the need to reduce the dependence on Russian fossil fuels. To this end, he stressed the importance of promoting investments and reforms based on the guidelines provided by this year’s country-specific recommendations, in line with the REPowerEU and European Green Pact priorities.
Ángel Tarrío Tobar, Director Xeral of Cohesion Policy and European Funds of the Xunta de Galicia, also intervened and explained the state of the programming of the funds in our region and their alignment with the country-specific recommendations of the European Commission, as well as the implementation in Galicia of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
